Setting up a Block Account

If you intend to fund your studies on your own, you will need a Blocked Account (Sperrkonto). You must deposit a minimum of EUR 10,332 in a blocked account at a German bank and can only withdraw a maximum of EUR 861,- per month ( amount updated from January 2021). You must make this change in the account opening form to avoid problems later on. When you are in India, you must open this. Check with your embassy. Is this money enough to cover the entire duration of your studies? No!! To enroll at the university, you must pay tuition fees and semester contributions upon arrival (in addition to rental, registration, and living costs). (This note applies to students who do not have a tuition fee exemption.)
